It is a common truth that physical activity does wonders for our body, mind and overall health. People who exercise or do any physical activity are known to live longer and lead a healthy and productive life. Although a great number of people connect martial arts with aggression, learning and practicing karate or judo or mixed martial arts(MMA), can have long-term, positive consequences on our health. Improving physical and psychological health, boosting one’s self-esteem and confidence, improving energy levels and concentration are just some of many positive effects of learning and practicing karate.

Improvement of Mental Health

Although it cannot be seen, the improvement of mental health is one of the most important and viable benefits of learning karate. Living a stress-free life is something we all aspire to, but not many of us can achieve that state. After a couple of hours of intense karate training, one’s body feels completely exhausted and muscles relaxed. The mind is completely free of negative thoughts and filled with a sense of happiness and achievement. If you are pushed to your limits, your mind will entirely be focused on completing that task, and it won’t have the time or the energy to think about anything else. It is also a great life lesson to young people that when you set your mind to and focus your energy on achieving something, you will get great results.

Improvement of Physical Health

Improvement of physical health is a benefit that can be seen in short time. People who train karate are more flexible, their muscles and joints are more flexible and have little chances of getting hurt in accidents than the people who don’t train. Moreover, balanced blood pressure, low cholesterol and sugar level are some of many other positive sides of training karate. There is also the habit of exercising regularly three or four times a week which is one of the most important things in life.

Boosting Self-Esteem and Confidence

Boosting self-esteem and confidence is something we should all do on a regular basis. If you believe in yourself and your capabilities, it will be easier to approach the task at hand and complete it successfully. When it comes to karate, a goal that is set has to be achieved step by step. Belt ranking system is something that measures one’s progress in karate. If one’s goal is a black belt, each belt before that comes as a prize for completing a stage and getting closer to an ultimate goal. It is when a person realizes that despite the difficulties, they were capable of achieving what they had in mind and this is the best way of boosting self-confidence and self-esteem on a long run.
